This past weekend, Shane told me to take Saturday and "have my own time". The first thing that popped in my head was, "what in the world should I do?". Now this isn't the first time Shane gave me this time. He is actually very good about taking the kids for the day or even just 3 hours or so. Sometimes I think he can just sense I really need it. But this got me thinking, "what did we do before kids?". I'm sure everyone has thought about this before. And although we were together only 3 years before Kyla came along, we were quite productive before kids. We used to try new restaurants, shop at antique stores, shop at home improvement stores, work on the house (ALOT), plan a wedding, cook exciting meals, go dancing, and consistently work out. I put in a lot of hours and weekends at work when Building C at National Instruments was going up....And I slept more than I ever will in the next 20 years. I wouldn't trade my kids for the world. It's just a different season in our life that revolves around their needs. We have definitely come to realize that it's not about "us" anymore.
Anyway, with my free time, I ended up going to a few shopping centers and the Shops at La Cantera. I was able to see so much and go so many places without having to worry about loading 2 kids in and out and pushing a stroller!

Hey girl! I'm so glad to read and see you in your blog. I wish we could have a cup of coffee. Your life sounds a lot like mine when it comes to what we did before kids. We just returned from the Down syndorwn national convention in Boston. where we also vacationed. I need to call your cell phone so you will have a 4th person to add to your list. Tons of hugs to you and your family. OH I'm working on a wedding that will be in San Antonio in Oct. I will fill you in more when I know more. Maybe we can see each other then.
